About the course:

The new Biostatistics course at Sweet Briar College is designed as a "second" statistics course, appropriate for students who have earned college credit for Advanced Placement Statistics or an equivalent introductory college statistics course. It is a required course for a Minor in Statistics at Sweet Briar College. Some goals of the course are:

• to enhance the preparation of students for career opportunities and graduate study
• to introduce students to the field of biostatistics
• to equip students with statistical tools that are widely used in life sciences
• to better prepare students to read research literature in the biosciences
• to help students plan data collection and analysis for their own undergraduate research
• to introduce modern, computing-intensive techiques already adopted by scientists and engineers
• to foster active learning through lab exercises, projects, group problem solving and discussion, and demonstrations based on data generated in class.
