Archaeology Laboratory

Generous support provided by an NSF CCLI Grant

The computer lab is equipped with:

  • Dell Optiplex computers
  • A Macintosh Powerbook (with the capacity for making movies)
  • A B/W and Color Printer
  • A scanner (for paper and slides)
  • ArcGis software for analyzing data
  • Graphics and Word processing software
  • Hand-held Global Positioning Units
  • A Leica Total Station for Mapping

Study Collections (available for original, student research) include:

  • Over 10,000 micro-artifacts from Upper Mesopotamian sites
  • Over two dozen animal skeletons in the ZooArchaeology Collection
  • Historic Artifacts from excavations conducted at the Sweet Briar Plantation and its sister plantation, Tusculum
  • Prehistoric ceramic and lithic collections from the South Eastern U.S.

The laboratory classroom is equipped with:

  • Powerpoint LCD Projector
  • Excavation equipment
  • Survey equipment
  • Metal detector and Soil corer
  • Artifact storage space
