Archaeology Program at Sweet Briar College

Zoo-Archaeological Collection

Stored in the Sweet Briar Archaeology Laboratory, Sweet Briar College, Amherst, Virginia.

If you know the location of an already dead specimen representing one of the animals on the "wish list" please contact Dr. Rainville. Please note, because this collection is for comparative purposes we are only collecting complete skeletons. Skulls alone are not of interest unless the rest of the skeleton is present.

All of the animals in the collection died a natural death and were collected as road kill, from pet stores, or from local farms. No animals were killed for this project. The species were collected per the "Wildlife Salvage Permit" #024230, valid 3/31/2004 through 12/31/2006, issued by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Warning: the photos may be disturbing to some audiences.
